I work in an office with a dress code that’s, well, kind of hard to describe. Some people wear jeans and t-shirts every day while others wear skirts and suits. Personally, I prefer to fall somewhere in between. I figure it’s safest that way. And while I love a good pencil skirt, I feel overly dressed if I put something like a button down or blouse on top. So I came up with some outfits that I think dress down a pencil skirt pretty effectively. Of course, the color of this pencil skirt helps to keep it from looking to formal, too.
What’s the dress code where you work? What ways would you dress down a pencil skirt?
It may have been the unofficial start to summer this weekend, but it was cold and wet here in Utah. It’s not unusual for it to snow here in May by any stretch of the imagination, but it still gets to me every time. One plus to some cooler weather, however, is getting to wear scarves. I’ll take any perk I can get.
How was your Memorial Day weekend?
Here’s the link to the video from Saturday’s Good Day Utah fashion trend segment on Fox 13. Unfortunately, I can’t embed this video on WordPress, so you’ll just have to follow the link. (Annoying, I know) Fox 13 Fashion Trends Segment video. I thought I’d break down the outfits by store for those who might be interested (in order of appearance in video).
Audrey’s outfit is from Panache, an online boutique based in Salt Lake City.
Next up was Sophie in an outfit from Hip & Humble in the 9th and 9th neighborhood of Salt Lake City.
Jen is wearing an outfit from Flight Boutique in Park City.
Finally, Sarah is wearing clothes from Koo De Ker, also in the 9th and 9th neighborhood.
There are so many great Salt Lake City boutiques, and I had a lot of fun getting to highlight a few of them in this trends segment. As nerve racking as being on live TV was, it was a great experience.
I don’t usually post on the weekends, but this felt like a great exception. This morning started obscenely early to get everything ready for the summer trends segment on Good Day Utah. With the help of the wonderful, amazing, beautiful Charlotte of Headstrong Makeup, we got four gorgeous girls ready from head to toe to model a few of this season’s trends on a live news segment. It was hectic, to say the least. I don’t remember the last time I was that nervous about something. But it all went really well. Here’s just a few pictures from this morning. You’ll notice that my cheeks betray just how nervous I was, they go bright pink under pressure.
A special thanks to these lovely ladies for modeling for me, to Charlotte for the beautiful makeup, and to the Salt Lake City boutiques that were kind enough to lend me clothes; Hip & Humble, Koo De Ker, Panache and Flight Boutique.
I hope to have a link to the video up soon. For now, I’m going to take a nap. You can check out some more pictures from this morning here.
This weekend was completely hectic. My house stands in shambles as proof of the fact that I barely had time to eat this weekend. Which is a big deal. I’m not one of those people who forgets to eat. It was busy because I’m putting together a summer fashion trends segment for the Fox 13 weekend edition. I’ve been planning trends, coordinating schedules, borrowing outfits from local boutiques. I underestimate how much time it would take, if I’m being honest. But it’ll be fun! Here’s a sneak peek of three of the four outfits that will be featured. And if you watching TV this Saturday morning at around 8:45 am (and you’re local), click over to channel 13 and let me know what you thought.
If you’re in the area tomorrow and looking for a fashion fix, you should stop by the Fashion Walk at 9th and 9th. A few of the local clothing stores are previewing summer trends, style consultants will be on hand to answer style questions and, of course, there’ll be time to stop for gelato. I think it’ll be a great even and a perfect start to the weekend.
Hope to see you there!
I’ve been really in to bright lip colors lately (yes, a little late on that bandwagon, but at least I made it). I’ve also been very drawn to bright lipstick-hued clothing lately. This made me wonder: Should you match your lipstick to your clothes? Should you forget the bright lipstick when wearing bright colors? Or, if you do opt for lipstick, should it contrast the color you’re wearing? Or am I the only one overthinking it this much? (I realize it’s most likely that last one)
Here’s a few looks I’ve tried with both matching lips to clothes and contrasting.
So, what do you think? Matching or contrasting? Or should I stop worrying so much about this altogether? (again, probably that last one)
