I’ve been slowly trying to teach myself pattern making. Out of this book. It’s a pretty great book, but it only goes so far. There are some instructions in the book that my mind just won’t grasp. I need someone there to show me what to do, instead of just reading it. This shortcoming of mine is well represented by my latest attempt.

Yep, that’d be a skirt that won’t fit over Gerty. I tried pulling it up over her hips, as well. No luck. Apparently I missed the part where the button closure was mostly decorative and a zipper was still required. Lesson learned, I suppose. Luckily, I just used some extra fabric I had lying around. So no big loss there.

I start my pattern making class this week, so I’m pretty excited to get some hands-on instruction. I also start the fashion illustration class, which I’m more nervous about since I can’t really draw very well. But, that what the class is for, I suppose. I’ve got several skirt ideas floating around. I just have to figure out which one I want to attempt next. Slowly but surely, I’ll get the basics down.
